Volcanoes, two harbours and a wild black-sand coast, all in one city and seen your way.
Few cities give you volcanic peaks, two harbours and a rugged rainforest coast all within an hour's drive. Your private Auckland day begins on the summit of Maungawhau Mount Eden, looking down into its grassy crater and across the whole isthmus. Your guide-host tells the story of Tāmaki Makaurau: its Māori origins, its maunga and how it became the city it is today. Drive the waterfront along Tāmaki Drive and stroll the Viaduct and Wynyard Quarter. Then cross the harbour to Devonport, a seaside village of villas and boutiques with sweeping views from its volcanic cones. For the full day, head west through the bush-clad Waitākere Ranges to Piha. Here black sand, crashing surf and the great bulk of Lion Rock show a completely different side of Auckland. Whether this is your first day in New Zealand or your last, it's a warm, personal welcome to our home city.
